The bud of this evergreen, indigenous to Southeast Asia, has a long history as an effective agent for minor pains and aches, particularly dental pain because of its numerous effects on oral gums. It is widely used in contemporary Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Clove Oil has a rich history, dating back as early as 200BC, using clove to improve breath odour and improving oral health. Clove oil was used to protect against the bubonic plague in Europe. Clove has long been used for treating digestive issues, fever, and respiratory problems. Clove appears as an unopened pink flower bud of the tropical evergreen tree. Hand-picked in late summer and again in winter. The buds are then dehydrated. The buds are either ground into a spice, left whole, or steam-distilled to produce clove essential oil.
One of the main uses of clove essential oil is to reduce pain related to dental problems, and it promotes healthy gums, and overall good dental hygiene. Clove essential oil can improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and is well known for its anti fungal and antibacterial properties. It can relieve pain from joints, muscles, sprains, arthritis and gout. Clove essential oil's natural anti-inflammatory properties reduce acne and along with redness in the skin. One common use for clove essential oil is as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial which is why we use it to help boost the immune system, and diminish symptoms of cold and flu. Because of its antibacterial properties, clove essential oil makes it a great, natural ingredient in home-made cleaning products.
