At JAO, we use RSPO-certified ‘segregated’ sustainable palm oil in our Bar Soaps (150g) and Refresh Body Cleansing Slab (310g). For other products, we use certified sustainable ‘mass balance’ palm oil ingredients where available, and we offset any remaining palm oil and palm-derived ingredient consumption through the RSPO’s ‘Book and Claim’ model.

We recognize the complex ethical, social, and environmental issues associated with palm oil production and its impact on biodiversity. While replacing palm oil with other vegetable oils might seem like a straightforward solution, it is not that simple. Sustainably farmed palm oil is more efficient compared to other oils, and switching away from it could lead to further socio-economic and environmental problems.

By supporting and using Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)-certified ingredients, we aim to mitigate the negative impacts of palm oil production. We are committed to sourcing only certified sustainable materials and have set an ambitious goal to ensure that by the end of 2025, all palm oil used will be at least RSPO mass balance.
