Why are some JAO products housed in plastic rather than glass?
Our decision to use plastic is based on a careful balance of our packaging principles, rigorous compatibility testing, and the practical benefits this material offers, such as lightweight, portability, and suitability for travel or wet environments.
We use Recycled PET (rPET) for its durability, safety, and environmental benefits. Our bottles are made with a minimum of 97% recycled content sourced from post-consumer kerbside recycling. By partnering with suppliers to use recycled PET, JAO supports the creation of demand for materials that would otherwise end up in landfill, thereby contributing to circular systems.
Recycled PET also provides environmental advantages by reducing product wastage from breakages and lowering freight emissions compared to heavier materials like glass. Additionally, it results in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to virgin PET.
Currently, more than 80% of our PET bottles have been transitioned to recycled PET, advancing our goal of ensuring that 100% of our packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.
